Norway wreck diving trips 2016
DATES FOR 2016
June11-18: June 18-25:June 25-july2:july2-9:July 16-23: July 23-30
A typical week to Floro, options are Sognefjord to dive the "Oldenburg" (classic historical war wreck) and the " Ingerseks"
We meet in Bergen on the Saturday and depending on arrival time we head north to Fedje diving the wreck of the "Spring" on the way. About 1 hour to the north of Bergen "Spring" a 900 ton collier lying under a cliff face in 8-50 m on a slope, a brilliant opener to Norway diving.
We sail to the island of Fedje and overnight there and leave early to get to the unique enclosed site of the "Frankenwald" for 2 dives, one is just not enough on this classic.
In 24-40 m this 5000 ton German cargo vessel sits upright allowing exploration of the whole ship, deco is completed on the masts! They come up to just a few metres of the surface.
Overnight is at one of the nearby piers or villages and in the morning we head up to the site of the "Tyrifjord" , 3080 tons of vessel lies up right in 25-37m, right in the bay we lunch In the town of Askvoll, in the afternoon we can dive the wreck again or head up towards the north , diving the "Ingetre" on the way north, an easy but good dive in 18-34m.
Overnighting in one of the hidden piers we steam to the "Welheim", en route to Floro this is another classic and probably my favorite.
5545 tons of cargo vessel was torpedoed by a Norwegian MTB in 1944 and she lies from 12m to 70m and is 127 m long, guns and anti aircraft weaponry are mid ships, near the bridge.
For the gas divers the stern ,in 70m, is a must. We do both dives on this wreck
The town of Floro is our overnight stop and in the morning we dive the " Optima" known as the cheese and wine wreck, it carried provisions for the occupying German forces and was sunk by Norwegians in a brave local action, max depth of about 40 m gives a good mornings dive, afternoon could be the " Mons", again in about 30-40m, a former Norwegian minelayer.
We now head south to overnight in "midge bay"!! Aptly named but a brilliant overnight stopover that leaves us close to the "Ferndale and "Parat" 2 wrecks sunk above bad below each other gives yet another absolute classic, "Ferndale " lays from just a few metres down to about 50m with the smaller "Parat" at the stern of "Ferndale", stunning stuff has to be done twice, options for those not wanting to repeat the depth are the wreck of the "Solvang II" a small coaster in 15-26 m.
We are now making our way back towards Bergen and have options on the dive sites on our return, the "Server" is a favorite, just to the south of Fedje, a wreck on hard bottom in normally excellent vis.
We return to Bergen on Friday afternoon but arrival times are normally dictated to by flight times etc etc.
Extra dives for scallops and wall dives are available all during the week.
We have lots of options on other dive sites, if your group has special objectives then no problem, just let me know what you want to do.
Other wreck sites
Jupiter, Svanholm, V5531, Oldenburg, Ilse Fritzen, Ingerseks, Soloy, Kilbulk,
I would also like to go to the north of Floro as the diving is excellent up there as well,
All oxygen and helium are available on board, as is Sofnalime and hire of my cylinders, twin sets, single 15s and 7 l stage cylinders all available
02-- 2p per litre. He- 3p per litre. Sofnalime-£4 kg. Twin set-- £50. 15 l--£25. 7l--£20
All to be pre-booked
Per person per week is £850, full board, meeting in Bergen harbour
Full boat booking for up to 12 divers is £9000 for the week
I suggest flying to Bergen, by far the best way to go as I have all the heavy stuff on board, buses travel to Bergen from the airport
Prices of gas etc are liable to change, this does depend on Norwegian prices at the time as they are generally more than twice the UK prices for the same gas, this I will know closer to the time.
